Former President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in arrived in Ulaanbaatar to attend UNCCD COP17 at the invitation of President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa. He was welcomed by the Mongolian president's foreign-policy adviser and South Korea's ambassador.

President Khurelsukh is expected to meet Moon during the conference. The two leaders held a virtual summit in 2021, when Mongolia and South Korea issued a joint declaration establishing a strategic partnership. South Korea's own experience as host of UNCCD COP10 in 2011 gives the visit an environmental-diplomacy dimension alongside the bilateral relationship. The report concerns arrival and an expected meeting; it does not announce a new agreement.
