The Government of Mongolia approved a draft intergovernmental agreement with China for joint construction of a second 1,435-millimeter-gauge railway line across the Zamyn-Uud–Erenhot border. MONTSAME reported that the Cabinet also decided to authorize the agreement’s signature.

Existing rail operations at the crossing handled 15.5 million tonnes of cargo in 2025, with freight volumes reaching the capacity of the two border stations. The proposed project would require not only a second cross-border standard-gauge connection but also expansion of Zamyn-Uud station, related track and transshipment facilities. The source reports a Cabinet decision and planned capacity expansion; it does not state a final construction schedule, total budget or completed financing structure.
