Mongolia and Germany Discuss Wider Environmental Cooperation
Environment and Climate Change Minister Sandag-Ochir Tsend met German Parliamentary State Secretary Johann Saathoff on August 23 to discuss deeper cooperation on biodiversity, water use, forestry and protected areas. The two sides called for stronger coordination between Mongolia's relevant ministries and Germany's KfW Development Bank when shaping current and future environmental programs. They also reviewed legal reform for specially protected areas and forests, including the participation of civil society and local communities in policy decisions. Mongolia presented work to restore and improve national forest-resource registration and inventory systems as part of its natural-resource-based development policy.
