Korea and Mongolia Set ‘Golden Age’ Agenda for Critical Minerals and Regional Peace

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa agreed on a joint declaration outlining the future direction of bilateral relations during their July 9 summit in Ulaanbaatar. The visit was the first state visit to Mongolia by a South Korean president in 15 years.

In his official press statement, President Lee said the two countries would expand cooperation in the economy, trade and investment and reinforce supply-chain cooperation, including in critical minerals. He also said President Khurelsukh shared the importance of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia. The leaders described the objective as opening a “Golden Age” in bilateral relations. The declaration provides political direction; individual investments and supply-chain projects will still require detailed agreements.
