UN Deputy Secretary-General Reviews Solar Heating Project in Ger District
Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh and UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed visited Chingeltei District on August 23 to review a UNDP solar-energy project for Ulaanbaatar's ger areas. The initiative is designed to equip 450 households with solar-powered heating and electricity systems. Each package combines photovoltaic panels, batteries, heat-storage electric heaters and smart meters. Organizers expect the systems to reduce household costs and air pollution while meeting heating and power needs. Participating homes may also be able to feed surplus electricity into the central grid, subject to the project's technical and regulatory arrangements.

Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh and UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed inspected the UNDP-supported project “Upgrading Ger Districts in Ulaanbaatar Through Solar Photovoltaic System Implementation” in Chingeltei District on August 23.
The project targets 450 households and combines solar panels, battery storage, heat-storage electric heaters and smart meters. Its stated objectives are to meet household heating and electricity needs with cleaner energy, reduce expenses and curb air pollution. The design also contemplates sending surplus electricity to the central grid. The visit reviewed implementation progress; it did not report completion of all 450 installations.
