Prime Minister N. Uchral ordered the relevant industry, mineral-resources and justice authorities to arrange Internal Troops protection for oil exploration and production sites. The government said the cabinet would formally consider the measure at its next meeting.

Officials framed the decision as an economic- and national-security step, citing annual fuel-import spending of about USD 2.2 billion. Site protection may reduce operational and security risks, but new domestic supply will still depend on exploration results, investment, infrastructure, regulation and project timelines.
