Mongolia Moves to Place Oil Exploration Sites Under Internal Troops Protection
Prime Minister N. Uchral instructed the ministers responsible for industry, mineral resources and justice to prepare protection by the Internal Troops for oil exploration and production sites. The government said the decision would be formalized at a cabinet meeting. It linked the measure to economic and national security, noting that Mongolia spends about USD 2.2 billion a year importing fuel. The announcement strengthens physical security around domestic petroleum activity, but it does not itself expand production or reduce the country's short-term reliance on imported refined products.
